PS Neo release date, specs: Analyst predicts console will launch by the end of the year

Sony did confirm that they are going to release a more powerful PlayStation 4 called the PlayStation Neo but did not unveil the console during this year's E3. Despite this, a report from Eurogamer points out that the PlayStation Neo may be released before the end of the year.

In the report, Digital Foundry's engineering expert Richard Leadbetter gave an in-depth analysis of the current state of both the Xbox One Scorpio and the PlayStation Neo as well as a look into the future of 4K gaming. During this analysis he pointed out that there is a strong chance of the PS Neo launching first and before the turn of the year.

"Several sources have indicated to me that PlayStation Neo launches this year, despite its E3 no-show. If that is the case, it'll be interesting to see how developers utilise its resources, and whether 4K really is the focus," explained Leadbetter in the report.

As stated in a report from Cinema Blend, the estimated release date for the PlayStation Neo is around November. However, it is important to note that neither Sony nor the manufacturers of the parts for the PlayStation Neo have confirmed any of the information and the launch date should still be taken as pure speculation.

The report continues to point out that empowering the PlayStation Neo to cater for 4K gaming is a lofty goal to aim for but it would allow the console to perfect the implementation of games running at 1080p resolutions with a consistent 60 fps rate.

It is further explained that there is no guarantee 4K gaming is the future of the industry but it is a direction the consoles are willing to take a risk for and this may indicate why the PlayStation Neo is launching as early as this year. By doing so it will allow gamers that can afford 4K gaming to already have an avenue to enjoy the experience.
