'Planetside 2' beta sign-up available now, creative director explains beta delay

"Planetside 2" fans have been waiting for the PlayStation 4 version of the game to come out. Last month, Sony Online Entertainment said that the playable beta will be available by the end of the year. It looks like Sony may just fulfill their promise after all.

The "Planetside 2" beta sign-ups are now available at the official website. All gamers need to do is enter their email address to enlist and be a part of the playable beta. According to Joystiq, once they've enlisted, they will get a message saying "Thank you for submitting your email address! We will keep you updated as we prepare to launch PlanetSide 2 on the PS4." If a player gets that message, then they're enlistment is successful.

Elsewhere, creative director Matt Higby addresses the delay of the playable beta. Eager and anxious fans have made some skeptic comments about the game release but Higby tells the real story.

"As much as it sounds like we're blowing smoke, we're working hard to release a game that feels like a full-on console experience and not just like a port," Higby said. "It's taken us quite a long time to re-jigger our user interface and our controls. There's a lot that needs to get done."

Higby also added that "Our goal is at the end of the day to have our launch on the PS4 feel like a great PS4 native console game. Not just a PC port."

He explained that the game isn't just about making it run on 1080p and 60 fps. He and his team want to produce a multishooter game that can provide a smooth framerate.

There is still no official word yet when the "Planetside 2" beta will come out, but opening the sign-ups should be a good sign that it will happen soon.
