'Person of Interest' season 5 renewed; premiere date news

Person of Interest CBS

Fans of "Person of Interest" can rejoice because CBS included it on its list of renewed shows. Many fans speculated that the series would not get a season 5 but according to a report from When-Will.net, it is getting renewed although at a dire cost that could eventually lead to cancellation down the line.

One indication that season 5 may be the last for "Person of Interest" is that it won't premiere this fall and instead has been slated to premiere during the midseason period. This means season 5 is likely to premiere around January instead of its usual September airing.

According to a report from Venture Capital Post, the new season is only getting half the number of episodes instead of the regular 22 to 23 per season. A report by IGN suggests that since the series is premiering late, there is a higher possibility that "Person of Interest" season 5 will only have from 10 to 13 episodes.

These are merely indications that a series isn't performing well but the producers and showrunners of "Person of Interest" aren't sure yet whether they should axe it or not.

"We're having those conversations with the team right now," CBS president Nina Tassler told IGN. "It's always been a really smart, creative show. If it is the final season, then we'll have a great ending."

According to When-Will.net, the series might get cut-off the same way as "The Mentalist" because it, too, was given a short episode order and a late premiere date.

CBS has yet to announce an official premiere date for "Person of Interest" season 5 and what its new time slot will be. VCPost points out that because of the show's late premiere, it is highly unlikely that it will retain its 10 p.m. EST Tuesday timeslot and instead will be moved to accomodate the stronger shows on the network.
