"No Man's Sky" was initially unveiled by Hello Games back in 2013 and for the longest time no release date has been revealed. However, in a sudden turn of events, Hello Games released a brand new trailer that gives a more specific release window, confirming that the game will launch on the PS4 in June 2016.
The release date is currently only for the PS4 and PC version. It is widely speculated that the PS4 version may release a few days earlier than the PC version. Due to Sony's strong support for Hello Games, "No Man's Sky" might not see a release on the Xbox One or Mac for the time being.
The brand new trailer features a moody voice-over and showcases many of the features of the game, including a few quick shots of combat, planetary and space exploration, mining for resources and planet scanning. There are also shots in the trailer depicting the type of community players will interact with while exploring the game's universe.
As previously reported, the game will approximately have 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 different planets to explore. With no specific story to follow, this will make "No Man's Sky" one of the largest free-roaming sandbox games to date. However, developer Hello Games explained a few years back that one "goal" was to reach the very center of the game's universe.
Every gamer will be able to discover a world and name it as they please. Players will be able to mine resources and use the materials to craft a better space ship and presumably better weapons and tools for combat and exploration respectively.
The game uses procedurally generated planets, which guarantees that it will spontaneously continue to grow and offer fresh new planets to be explored, removing the issue of too many planets being too similar to each other. While some planets might appear the same, their atmospheric composition may be different or their resources and inhabitants might be different, offering a unique experience for each planet visited.
