Free agent running back Knowshon Moreno has denied claims that his career is over. Posting on Twitter, the former Denver Broncos player stated that he does plan on being on the field for the upcoming 2016-2017 NFL season despite not having landed a spot yet on any of the NFL teams and his several injuries.
As stated in a report from NFL Trade Rumors, Moreno started as a first-round pick for the Denver Broncos back in 2009 and continued to play with the team for another five years before signing a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. However, he suffered from a dislocated elbow and a torn ACL that caused him to sit out the entire 2015 season.
It was because of this injury and his absence from the season that reporter Mike Klis of 9 News claimed that Moreno's career might be over. According to Klis, Moreno is "80 percent done but is staying in great shape just in case," a claim that Moreno now refutes.
However, given that no team has yet picked him up, it is undetermined if he will be able to play in the upcoming season. According to a report from Sports Alerts, it is possible that he will sign back on with the Miami Dolphins but should not expect anything more than the $3 million one-year contract they previously offered him.
The report also points out that the New England Patriots may sign Moreno on given that they are in need of filling out the running back position. However, the Patriots have also made an offer to Arian Foster, a player that several other teams are chasing after. If Foster refuses the Patriots then it is possible they will sign on Moreno to fill the void.
The third and last possible option listed by Sports Alerts is the San Diego Chargers. According to the report, the Chargers have been looking around for players to fulfill the back positions and Moreno may be suitable for this need, although the Chargers may already have other players in mind.
