Nexus 8 or 9? New Google device to take stage and HTC has something to do with it

Nexus 7

Last week, Focus Taiwan reported that before the year ends, Taiwan will get to see the new Google 8.9-inch tablet which is rumored to be designed by HTC. Wall Street Journal, with their ever-reliable sources, revealed that Google has been taking HTC engineers to work on the device in their Mountain View, California headquarters.

Quoting Wall Street Journal: "Google likes to change its partners from device to device to avoid any one manufacturer gaining a monopoly, said a person familiar with the matter. That's why Google had been mulling HTC as a Nexus tablet partner since last year, the person said."

So it's safe to assume that Google has reestablished its partnership with the company four years after their team up, also for a Nexus device, just in time to get the new tablet on the holiday shopping list.

Reports say that Nvidia also has a part in the project. Bright Side of News cited a legal document published in Nvidia's website, which was shortly removed, allegedly confirming that HTC has been working with Google, and the project was indeed the creation of Nexus 9. The document also reportedly indicated that the new device, which will sport a Tegra K1, is set to come out in Oct. 15.

Although speculated Nexus release dates have been off the mark in the past, Know Your Mobile assures that an HTC-designed Nexus will be coming out. It then stated that an October release is probable as "multiple Android L 5.0 leaks (a.k.a. Lollipop or Lemon Meringue Pie) point to an October rollout to existing smartphones - that's unlikely to happen without the build debuting on a Nexus device first, usually the new smartphone is the forerunner on that."

The new device's specs were also laid out by Know Your Mobile.  If the predictions are accurate, then the new tablet will sport an 8.9-inch display at 2048x1440 (281 ppi) while running on an NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor (Tegra K1). In sleek and slim finish, the 0.31-inch Nexus 9 will also integrate 2GB RAM, 16 and 32GB internal storage, 8MP OIS main camera and 3MP for the front. Moreover, in aluminum zero-gap construction, it will bear stereo front-facing speakers.

On top of all that, Bright Side of News says that Oct. 15 will be the roll out date for a new a Google device that will be known as Nexus 9. And that the tablet, with a $399 price tag, will hit stores by Nov. 3.
