The rumored Google Nexus 8 will be perfect for gaming as it was reported to pack an NVIDIA Tegra 4 SoC chipset with 64-bit architecture.
This year's Google I/O Conference inches closer and the long rumored Google Nexus 8 is making the rounds online. A new report from Google development properties hinted on the possible specs and features of the 8-inch tablet.
NDTV Gadgets cited tech website MYCE, which first spotted the 'volantis/ flounder' in Android source code, which could be the codename given by Google to Nexus 8 tablet. Google associated its devices to sea creatures when it named the Nexus 10 was "manta," while the Nexus 5 was nicknamed as "hammerhead".
Very few details were revealed about the device. The report added that the tablet will be powered by a Tegra processor. The screenshot mentioned both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and reports are leaning towards the 64-bit Nvidia Tegra ARM processor. This negates the earlier reports that claimed that the Nexus 8 will pack an Intel CPU while others predicted that the tablet will be equipped with a Qualcomm chipset. However, Tegra chips were known to be apt for gaming and this could mean that Google may improve the performance of its devices to support power hogging apps and games.
According to hearsays, Google Nexus 8 was meant to replace the company's Nexus 7 because of the lesser competition in the 8-inch market. Google's new device was rumored to bear a slightly hefty price tag because of the high end specs and features added in the device.
Aside from NVIDIA Tegra chipset, Google's new 8-inch tablet was rumored to pack a high quality 8.9 inches screen panel and Android 4.5 Lollipop OS. Reports claimed that the rumored 8-inch tablet is undergoing testing in preparation for its imminent launch. Google Nexus 8 release date was reported to take place next month at the company's I/O tech event kicking off on June 25.
