Nexus 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus specs comparison: the ultimate phablet battle

Nexus 6 Google

The Nexus 6 was just announced this October and reports say that Google's latest full-sized device offering was already sold out just hours after its pre-order availability in the United States. It looks like the Motorola-made phablet is now the one to watch. What better phablet to compare it with than another frontrunner and one of Apple's pioneers of the large screen department, the iPhone 6 Plus.

First off, the iPhone 6 sports a classier look with its high-end aluminum back compared to the plastic exterior of the Nexus 6, although it has a contoured aluminum frame, which makes it look quite chic. The latter is the heftier phablet weighing 184g and a 10mm thick. The iPhone 6 Plus only weighs 172g and is incredibly thin at 7.1mm.

Both phablets are comparatively big but the Nexus 6 is clearly the larger of the two and probably the biggest among its competitors in the category with its 5.96-inch QHD display. The iPhone 6 Plus sports a Retina HD 5.5-inch screen, which is expected to improve the phablet's screen spectacularly. Resolution-wise, the Nexus 6 has an amazing 1440 x 2560 resolution and a 493 ppi pixel density therefore faintly snagging a win from the Apple flagship's 1080 x 1920 and a 401 ppi pixel density.

The shooters are a big comparison too. The Nexus 6 boasts a 13-megapixel rear snapper and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The iPhone 6 Plus parades an 8-megapixel rear shooter and a 1.2-megapixel selfie-snapper.

Now, off to the insides. The Nexus device is a robust device packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocking in at 2.7GHz and an Adreno 420 graphics on top of 3 GB of RAM. The iPhone 6 is proven to be a power performer (even with heavy-duty tasks) with its 64-bit A8 processor, M8 motion co-processor and a PowerVR GX645 quad-core graphics partnered with 1 GB of RAM. Also thanks to the A8 breakthrough, the Apple handset promise a whole day of use with its 2915mAh battery. But sure enough, the Nexus 6 equals this with its 3220mAh. It might even be better with its inbuilt fast charging technology that spawns 6 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charging.

Other unique features include the Apple Pay and the Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated in the iPhone 6 Plus and the front-facing duo stereo speakers Nexus 6 shows off. The former is available in 16, 64 and 128 GB models with Space Gray, Silver and Gold color variants. The latter offers 32 and 64 GB in Midnight Blue and Cloud White.

While fussing over the impressive specs, one can now consider the pricing. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus is a $749 outlay and is offered $299 in top U.S carriers. The Nexus 6 attaches a $650 price tag. It was made available for pre-order on Oct. 29 and will be released really soon in November.
