Previous Nexus models, namely Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10, finally received the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update.
After a month of waiting, users of older Nexus devices will be able to get a taste of the new Lollipop OS. Twitter user @android said that Google is currently rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS OTA update. Thus, users should start checking the updates and notifications in their devices.
However, the update is being rolled out in phases. This means that some users may have to wait longer than others. Those who have not received a notification yet can manually check the device by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.
It is obvious that Android 5.0 Lollipop OS's roadmap will make a stop on Nexus and Google Play Edition devices first. Then, Google will make the operating system available to third-party manufacturers that use the Android OS and deliver them to their respective devices with respective customizations. Motorola, HTC and LG are reportedly the first mobile manufacturers to deliver the Android update to their respective devices.
The latest Android OS features a new Material Design, which shows off vivid colors, responsiveness, and natural shadows in the new user interface. The new user interface brings "intuitive experiences across all your devices," according to Google. Moreover, the new OS brings different shapes of navigation buttons: triangle, circle and square.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS also includes improved features such as better notifications, lockscreen, multi-tasking, notification bar, and battery capacity. The new OS also greatly improves the security of the new devices as it enables users to unlock their smartphone when physically near enough a device like an Android Wear smartwatch. Thus, users will be able to open their devices without the need to enter a password.
Lastly, the Android 5.0 Lollipop includes a battery saver feature and battery settings screen. When the user plugs in the device, it will show the estimated time left until the battery is fully-charged.
