The New York Yankees is said to be seeking to increase their might by eyeing veteran and former player Eduardo Nunez to play as an infielder for their team.

The Major League Baseball (MLB) juggernaut aims to strengthen their lineup before spring training with Nunez filling in the needed manpower for the in-fielder role.

However, the NY Yankees are not the only one vying for the free-agent player's attention. Two other teams are also going into talks with the veteran player in the hopes of securing a nod — the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.

This was revealed in a tweet by Ken Rosenthal, a writer for The Athletic.

"Both #Yankees and #RedSox have shown interest in free-agent IF Eduardo Nunez, sources say. #Rays, in need of right-handed hitting, also have checked in. Rays monitoring RH bats even while continuing to listen on Odorizzi, Colome, etc. Odorizzi could go to a Darvish runner-up," Rosenthal divulged.

According to NJ, signing Nunez would give the Yankees an advantage seeing as he thrived in the last season and has a valuable amount of experience playing for the market.

In 2016, Nunez's breakout season came wherein he played for two different teams, namely the Twins and the San Francisco Giants, before being traded again last season to the Red Sox.

During those playoffs he incurred a record of .288 bats with 16 homers, 67 runs batted in (RBIs), 73 runs scored and 40 stolen bases.

Nunez started his career with the Yankees in 2004 as an international free agent. The Dominican-born baseball player played as an infielder for the team and broke out into the majors in 2010 before ultimately being traded to the Minnesota Twins in April 2014.
