New rumors state that the next MacBook Air will resort back to i5 and i7 chipsets instead of the forthcoming "Core M" processors.
According to reports, the Yoga 3 Pro by Apple's rival Lenovo runs on the latest M Core chips, but is performing quite poorly in reviews and benchmark tests. The new notebook from Lenovo reportedly has lower performance than its predecessor when it is supposed to be an upgrade. The laptop is also said to be struggling in running the Google Chrome browser, and some of the pertinent programs do not function well with the new processor.
This feedback may discourage Apple from including the new chipset in its devices. However, Lenovo is running Windows OS and the Core M chips have not been tested on the Mac OS yet. Thus, the result is still unknown.
According to MacRumors, Intel's "Core M" chips are the lower version of the Broadwell processors. New MacBooks may pack the next-generation of the processors that will be shipped in early 2015. The report added that the new chips that are being tested on the 12-inch MacBook Air are the high-end 5Y71 chip clocked at 1.2 GHz and up to 2.9 GHz.
One of the primary reasons why Apple will power its new generation of laptops with Intel's Broadwell is to make the notebooks lighter by letting go of the fans. Being fanless is the latest trend in notebook nowadays as consumers are looking for lighter notebooks.
Some of the rumored features of MacBook Air are 12-inch monitor with Retina display, 128 GB or 256 GB SSD, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM; 2x USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort / Thunderbolt 2.0, Memory card reader, and 720p FaceTime camera.
However, the Cupertino-based company has not confirmed yet whether it will release the new laptop early next year. Fans were utterly disappointed when the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro skipped the company's press event last month.
