NBA trade rumors: Jeremy Lin making a move to the Dallas Mavericks?

Jeremy Lin, who most recently played for the Charlotte Hornets, is entering free agency this coming July, and according to a report from Sports Rageous, there is a chance that if the Hornets don't offer him a better long-term deal he may be moving to the Dallas Mavericks.

According to the report, Mavericks player Deron Williams is looking into the option of leaving the team and entering free agency this July. If he does then the Mavericks will need to prioritize re-working their entire build and this is where Lin is speculated to fit right in. The report points out that Lin may become the team's starting point guard.

The key reason that the Mavericks might entice Lin more than the Charlotte Hornets or even the L.A. Lakers is because they are one of the few teams that may place Lin as a starting player instead of putting him on the bench and forcing him to work with secondary players.

"Everyone knows that I'm a free agent. The most important thing for me is that I want to be happy," Lin explained a while back to Focus Taiwan. "And of course, it will depend on whether I am a starter and how much playing time I get. I will all that into consideration."

All this is only going to be possible if Williams decides to enter free agency instead of taking the $5.6 million he may already accept from the Mavericks. It is possible the Mavericks may offer Williams a higher salary and a long-term deal to keep him with them or they may let him go and trade him out for Lin.

Lin, the star of "Linsanity" back when he was playing for the New York Knicks, has yet to achieve the same level of success but it is noted by the report that his time with the Charlottes is his best season yet since leaving the Knicks.
