'Mr. Robot' season 2 cast: Grace Gummer confirmed to join

The cast of "Mr. Robot" season 2 is set to grow as a report from Variety states that "American Horror Story" and "The Newsroom" veteran Grace Gummer will be joining the cast very soon. However, fans of the series should beware as she is not likely going to be on Elliot's (Rami Malek) side.

According to the report, Gummer will be portraying a young FBI agent named Dominique "Dom" DiPierro who is intent on investigating the event surrounding the hacking incident at Evil Corp., leading her to a series of investigation concerning fsociety and its members.

Fans have thus speculated that Gummer's character will be the audience's point of view as the show continues to reveal the true history surrounding fsociety, Elliot and his family. It has been suggested that there are still mysteries to resolve regarding Elliot's perception of reality and it is likely that Gummer will be responsible for distinguishing what is real and what is not.

While there is no confirmation that Gummer's character is the antagonist of season 2, at least in Elliot's point of view, this is likely to be true given that they are now on opposite sides of the law. This doesn't mean that DiPierro won't be joining or at least aiding fsociety later down the line.

This is further implied with series creator Sam Esmail's comments back in September where he told the Hollywood Reporter,"Now that the hack has happened, I actually think it's not just E Corp. that will be, if you want to call them, antagonists, of fsociety."

Gummer, daughter of multiple Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, recently starred as Nora Ephron in "Good Girls Revolt" and has just wrapped up filming for the HBO Films title "Confirmation." Her previous credits include the aforementioned "American Horror Story," "The Newsroom" and "Extant."

"Mr. Robot" season 2 is expected to air this summer.
