'Mortal Kombat X' character update: Tri-Borg composed of 4 ninjas instead of 3

Mortal Kombat X - Tri-Borg Netherrealm Studios

One of the four characters being introduced in the upcoming "Kombat Pack 2" DLC for "Mortal Kombat X" is Tri-Borg. As the name suggests, the character is expected to feature the skill set of three characters, but a recent report from Kotaku reveals that Tri-Borg will comprise four characters instead of three.

During a special stream of gaming promotion event ESL, Tri-Borg was shown to feature moves inspired by Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke. This would make sense given that all three have been cyborg ninjas in previous games. However, as a nod to the events in "Mortal Kombat IX," it is later revealed that Tri-Borg also has moves based on Sub-Zero.

The video stream reveals that Tri-Borg will be able to summon small drones from his hands while also shooting out freezing blasts akin to the popular ninja. Kotaku also posts a screenshot proving that this is not just a re-skin of Tri-Borg as there is a full move list.

All of the four ninjas were a part of the Lin Kuei band of ninjas. Sektor and Cyrax were, in "Mortal Kombat" lore, chosen or volunteered to undergo the cybernetic transformation while Smoke and Sub-Zero were captured and forced to undergo the process. Sub-Zero's cybernetic form was only seen in "Mortal Kombat IX."

According to Games Radar, it is possible that the Sub-Zero abilities are the default "variationless" form of Tri-Borg while the Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke abilities are all designation "variations" of the character. This variationless form can be triggered in the game by tapping Up, Up, Triangle/Y on the controller.

It is undetermined how Tri-Borg will play into the overall story of "Mortal Kombat X" but players will be able to get their answers soon when the "Kombat Pack 2" DLC and "Mortal Kombat XL" edition releases this coming March 1.
