The official Xbox website has announced that the first major update for "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition" and "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" will launch before the end of the month. Dubbed "The Overworld Update," this will introduce several new mechanics to the game while also adding new achievements and technical adjustments.
Last year, the mobile and Windows 10 versions of "Minecraft" received the addition of the redstone components, items in the game that allowed players to craft basic mechanical objects like switches. The "Overworld" update will add more redstone components, therefore allowing for more complex machinery.
The new components will include repeaters, trapped chests, droppers, dispensers and more.
Redstone components won't be the only new additions, however. The overworld will also be littered with witch huts. The huts can be found around the world's swamps and inside the huts are witch's cauldrons that players can sneak by and steal its contents to make armor dye.
Item Frames will be added as well, allowing players to display their rare loot. The update will also give players a map that they can mount on the wall to get a clear overview of their world. New building blocks such as red sandstone and slime blocks will also be included.
Outside of gameplay additions is the new ability for players to quickly import and export maps. This will make it far easier for friends to share their crafted worlds with their peers and the online community, a key aspect that has kept "Minecraft" popular to this day.
Eight new achievements will also be available:
- Camouflage - players must kill a mob while wearing the exact same kind of mob head
- Dispense With This - construct a dispenser
- Tie Dye Outfit - all unique pieces of leather armor must be dyed at least once
- Map Room - craft a large map using 9 Item Frames with maps in them, arranged in a 3 by 3 format
- Trampoline Bounce - players must bounce at least 30 blocks up from a slime block
- Freight Station - players must move an item from a Chest Minecart to a regular Chest using a Hopper
- Smelt Everything - Using 3 Hoppers a play must connect at least 3 chests to a Furnace
- Taste of Your Own Medicine - poison at least one witch with a splash potion.
