'Mighty No. 9' release date delayed again - what to expect

Mighty No. 9 Comcept

"Mighty No. 9" is one of the most highly anticipated crowdfunded video games as it is not only a spiritual successor to the "Mega Man" series but it is also being made by "Mega Man" creator Keiji Inafune himself. However, Inafune has just announced that the game is being delayed again, missing its Feb. 9 release date.

The game, which is being developed by Comcept and will be published byDeep Silver, was initially set to release in April 2015 but this was moved five months further to Sept. 15. The release date was then again moved to Feb. 9 of this year but is now expected to launch sometime this spring.

Inafune explains that the major reasons for the delay lie with the problems the development team is encountering regarding bugs in matchmaking. He then cites that there are two causes for their current matchmaking predicaments.

"One of them being the large number of platforms supported (the solution for each platform is slightly different) and the other stems from the fact that the engine we are using is no longer being updated which means adjustments for matchmaking and online code are being made manually," he states on the official Kickstarter page.

Unfortunately, the official post is unsettling for many backers as the release date has gone from a definitive Feb. 9 to an uncertain spring release, hinting that the game may be delayed yet again until the developers post an official release date for the game. This follows Inafune's promise that the game would not be delayed yet again.

As stated in a report from Polygon, the project began as far back as 2013 and since then the game has been able to accumulate well over 67,000 supporters and generate over $4 Million by September 2013 alone. Although the game was initially being designed solely for PC, it is now going to launch for a multitude of platforms.
