'Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor' news: Game's sequel rumored to be in development

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Monolith Productions

"Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" was arguably one of the best "Lord of the Rings" games ever released. Rumors are now flying about that the 2014 title will be getting a sequel. According to a report from Nerd Leaks, Monolith Productions may already be working on the CGI announcement trailer.

The report points out that the Curriculum Vitae of motion capture professional and stunt actress Lauren Mary Kim reveals that she is currently working on a project titled "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor 2" and it is also indicated that the motion capture work is being done by Blur, the same CGI studio behind shows like "Daredevil" and games like "Arkham Knight."

According to the report, this CGI trailer that Kim and Blur Studio are working on may be the announcement trailer that will be used when the developer announces the game at this year's E3. This would mean that "Shadow of Mordor 2" is the game the studio has been secretly developing for the past two years.

This would be the first leak confirming that the game is indeed in the works ever since the first game officially closed with the release of its two main DLC packs, "Lord of the Hunt" and "The Bright Lord." It is unclear if this second game will again take place between "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" or if it will be set in a different period.

Kim is known as one of the most prolific stunt actresses and motion capture performers in the industry today. Her list of previous work includes "Fast and the Furious 7," "Suicide Squad" and the "Daredevil" series on Netflix. She has worked on games such as "Batman: Arkham Knight," "Tomb Raider" and "BioShock Infinite."

The original "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" was released in 2014 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and the PC. It is widely speculated that the sequel will only be released for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. No set release date has yet been indicated but it is speculated that the details will be revealed during the E3 unveiling of the game.
