Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date: Tablet coming in October as Pro 3 sales continue?

Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the predecessor of the soon-to-be released Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Microsoft

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 continues to sell with a $150 discount for the three variants. These price drops continue to give credence to the rumor that the company is clearing off shelves to prepare for a Surface Pro 4 release this year. According to Tom Warren of TheVerge and WinRumors, the Surface Pro 4 is actually coming out in October.

The Surface Pro 3 with i5 processor and 256 GB storage and 8 GB RAM has dropped to a $1,149 price on the Microsoft Store while the variant with an i7 processor, 256 GB storage and 8 GB RAM now costs $1,399. The i7 variant with 512 GB storage and 8 GB RAM is now priced at $1,799.

Perhaps the more revealing hint is the tweet from Warren that says, "If you liked the Surface Pro 3 you'll definitely like the Surface Pro 4. Don't worry, it won't be using Core M chips."

The senior editor also took time to respond to some comments for the initial tweet, and when one user asked whether they should push through with their order for the Surface Pro 3 or just wait for its successor, Warren replied with the statement, "Definitely wait for the 4. October."

According to a report from Yibada, Microsoft clearing space with all of the recent Surface Pro 3 discounts isn't the only reason to believe that the Surface Pro 4 is just around the corner. The site also states that the recent worldwide release of Windows 10 is a sign that the Surface Pro 4 is about to be launched.

The Surface Pro 4 is set to be the most powerful tablet in the market to date, arguably even more powerful than the already impressive Surface Pro 3. However, Warren did note that some of the rumors, such as the support for USB Type-C, aren't true. Other rumors speculate that it will feature 16 GB RAM, 1 TB storage and a larger 14-inch display.
