The Microsoft Surface Phone was rumored to appear during Microsoft's Oct. 26 event, but the date came and went with no mention of the smartphone. Despite this, rumors persist that the company is still launching the phone soon and that it is going to roll out in early 2017.
According to a report from Game N Guide, there are three variants of the phone that will come out. The base model is going to sport 4 GB RAM, and this will go up to 6 GB and possibly 8 GB RAM for the most premium model. Storage options will go from 64 GB to 128 GB and possibly higher. MicroSD card support is also likely.
Just like the Microsoft Surface Pro, the new phone is speculated to feature an all-metallic design and may have a fingerprint sensor embedded in the display. By doing so, it can reduce the bezel and increase the display area that consumers can utilize.
The OnePlus 4 is going to feature a similar design, but it will go a few steps further by completing removing the upper display bezel and placing the other features, such as the fingerprint sensor and antennae, underneath the screen. It is likely that the Surface Phone will be implementing similar technology.
Given that this is going to be the new flagship phone for Microsoft, following the dissolution of Nokia, the Surface Phone is also rumored to feature a mobile build of the Intel Kaby Lake processor. Since the Kaby Lake is not launching until late this year and early 2017, it is possible that the processor is one cause for the phone's delay.
According to the report, the phone is likely going to cost between $700 and $1,000, depending on the specs and design alone. Microsoft has yet to confirm if these specs and price ranges are true, and it has yet to acknowledge that the Microsoft Surface Phone is even in development.
