Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs rumors: Laptop rumored to debut early 2017

Despite the success of the Microsoft Surface Book, the developers have yet to make any official announcements regarding its successor, the Surface Book 2. According to Vine Report, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 may be released in early 2017 instead of this October.

According to the report, Microsoft is still waiting for Intel to release their brand new Kaby Lake processor chips. Kaby Lake chips will be able to perform the same capabilities as the high end processors already available but with minimum effort and hardware required, making them far more efficient and faster.

It is further stated that the delay for the Surface Book 2's launch may also be due to new external features being added to the laptop. Two of the rumored external features include USB Type-C ports and a full 4K resolution display although Microsoft has yet to confirm if any of these are indeed going to be implemented in the laptop.

Although unconfirmed, it is also reported that the Surface Book 2 will utilize a higher-end graphics card as Microsoft may be working together with Nvidia to improve on their graphical processing unit. It is speculated that an Nvidia GTX card might be added or Nvidia may be designing a brand new type of graphics card for the Surface Book 2.

It is also unknown if the Surface Book 2 will alter any of the features for the tablet portion of the Surface Book 2 and if it will come with a rechargeable Surface Pen that is rumored to be included with the yet-to-be-released Surface Pro 5.

The Microsoft Surface Book was originally launched in October last year and it was initially presumed that the successor would launch in October this year. However, Microsoft has been silent regarding the laptop's release and the delay for the Kaby Lake processors may indeed see the Surface Book 2 be pushed back to early or summer 2017.
