'Married at First Sight' season 3 cancelled or renewed? FYI still mum on fate of reality show

"Married at First Sight" season 1 was a huge success, as it validated the idea behind the reality show: two strangers get paired by relationship experts, they get married at their first meeting, and they stay married for the rest of their lives. The first season saw two couples still married to this day, Jamie Otis and Dough Hener, as well as Cortney Hendrix and Jason Carrion.

Although the success story of the first run of "Married at First Sight" made sure that there would be another season, the succeeding installment of the show was not as lucky. All of the three couples from season 2 ended up divorcing each other. The union of Jessica Castro and Ryan De Nino not only ended up in divorce but it even reportedly resulted to Castro filing a restraining order against De Nino.

The way season 2 failed in matching couples for marriage also gave way to questions about the process used in screening individuals for the show. Executive producer Chris Coelen defended the means they employ in choosing the participants. He revealed to People that over a period of six months, a team is sent to different geographical areas to look for single men and women. As the pooling of possible participants is finalized, the shortlisted names are then passed on to the show's four experts. Background checks, psychological evaluations and other processes are performed by accredited third parties. From there, the final cast is identified.

The failed marriages in season 2 are the leading cause of speculations if a season 3 is even possible now. Also, FYI network has not made any announcement that it has already renewed the show for season 3.
