'Mario Kart 8' DLC 3 release date: third DLC to arrive by the holidays?

"Mario Kart 8" for the Wii U Nintendo

It was previously reported that "Mario Kart 8" may be receiving a brand-new DLC pack given that the Nintendo UK Twitter account posted an image with a caption stating "Good things come to those who wait." Fans now speculate that this DLC pack may release by the holidays these year and Tech Times states classic tracks might be featured.

According to the report, the photo that Nintendo UK revealed was that of Luigi and Wario competing on the Kalimari Desert track, which made its debut in "Mario Kart 64." It is hinted that this means DLC 3 will contain new characters and may be bringing in characters or tracks from the older games such as "Mario Kart 64" or "Mario Kart Double Dash."

It is further explained that the past two DLC packs were focused entirely on bringing in "Animal Crossing" and "The Legend of Zelda" elements to "Mario Kart 8," such as characters and tracks inspired by the two aforementioned video game series. The third DLC pack would then be a celebration of the older entries in the "Mario Kart" franchise.

Fans speculate that this third DLC will launch by the holidays given that 2016 is going to be the last year dedicated solely to the Nintendo Wii U. By early 2017 Nintendo would be focusing all of its attention in marketing their new console, the Nintendo NX. The NX already has at least one game confirmed for it: "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."

Nintendo has yet to announce if the Twitter statement is indeed hinting at a new DLC pack and if it is the company needs to confirm what the DLC will contain. It is also unconfirmed if this DLC is going to be Europe-exclusive or if it will launch in Europe firstbefore heading to the U.S. and Japan given that Nintendo UK broke out the news first.
