Netflix has yet to renew "Marco Polo" for a third season, and given how Netflix does not share show ratings, it has been difficult for fans to discern whether the series is moving forward or not. New rumors, however, suggest that the show has indeed been cancelled.

According to Game N Guide, the show has been cancelled, and that is why no announcements for "Marco Polo" season 3 have been made. The report states that one of the major reasons for the show's sudden cancellation is actor Benedict Wong's decision to move on to another series.

Wong, who plays Kublai Khan in the show, is stated to have signed up for a brand new show, although the exact nature and title of this other series has not been revealed. Wong is also signed on for the upcoming "Doctor Strange" movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his schedule may be tied, preventing him from continuing his role in "Marco Polo."

This will be a disappointment for fans of the show given that Kublai Khan's fate was not shown in the season 2 finale. In the episode, Khan charged into the enemy forces, rushing into a trap, and it was not revealed whether he survived. In the real annals of history, Kublai Khan did survive, and Marco Polo was able to return home in Europe.

Netflix has been known for delaying their announcements, however. Fans will recall that it took months before Netflix announced "Daredevil" season 3, a solo "Punisher" series, and "Sense8" season 2 despite how popular and highly praised those series were. It is possible that the network is taking its time before announcing "Marco Polo" season 3.

Show creator John Fusco also hinted that this may be the case when he posted a cryptic message on Twitter stating, "Kublai is a man of vision. He will see a way."
