MacBook Air 2014 in two sizes Apple

Christmas is coming pretty early for consumers wanting to buy a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro as both products are being offered at generous discounts from retailers ahead the holiday festivities. Best Buy, B&H Photo, MacMall and other retailers have great deals for Apple's laptop.

MacBook Air

  • $799 - 11.6-inch 1.4 GHz/ 4 GB/ 128 GB in Best Buy, B&H Photo, and MacMall
  • $999 - 11.6-inch 1.4 GHz/ 4 GB/ 256 GB in B&H Photo and Adorama
  • $999.99 - 13.3-inch 1.4 GHz/ 4 GB / 256 GB in Best Buy

Retina MacBook Pro

  • $1,349 - 13-inch 2.6 GHz/ 8 GB/ 256 GB in Adorama and B&H Photo
  • $1,599 - 13-inch 2.8 GHz/ 8GB/ 512 GB in Best Buy and B&H Photo
  • $1,699 - 15-inch 2.2 GHz/ 16 GB/ 256 GB in Adorama and B&H Photo
  • $2,199 - 15-inch 2.5 GHz/ 16 GB/ 512 GB in Adorama and B&H Photo

Meanwhile, Apple also offers refurbished units of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display for $1,699, down from its original price of $1,999.  The laptap has quad-core i7 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz from Intel paired with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB flash memory. Refurbished units are pre-owned devices sent back due to defects. Apple repairs and replaces parts, making it as good as brand new models and sells the device at a lesser price.

Consumers can also get the devices for a lesser price through second-hand resellers crowding Amazon and eBay.

On the other hand, the next generation of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are reported to appear in the first quarter of next year. The MacBook Air is purported to boast a 12-inch Retina screen display, while the MacBook Pro is reported to sport a touchscreen screen panel.

For the processors, reports indicate that Apple purposely delayed the launch of the laptops due to Intel's new Broadwell chipsets set to be launched in 2015. The laptops will also have the new USB Type-C port and better battery capacity.

However, Apple has not commented on the rumors yet.
