Mac Mini 2014 price and availability: Retailers cut $5 off new computer

Some retailers slash $5 off the price of the newly-announced Mac Mini.

U.S. retailers Amazon, B&H, PCM and MacMall are offering Apple fans a small cut on the new Mac Mini price, which is a little gift for those who are itching to grab the new desktop computer.

Tech giant Apple finally paid attention and refreshed the Mac Mini, which was previously updated in 2012. Apple announced the new Mac Mini at the Oct. 16 press event. The Mac computer was announced alongside other Apple devices such as the next generation iPads and iMac with Retina display.

Basically, the smallest and cheapest Apple computer received a facelift and received an update on the processor with the new Intel CPU. The $499 Mac Mini packs the fourth-gen 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of memory, a 500 GB 5400 rpm hard drive and Intel HD Graphics 5000.

Meanwhile, the $699 Mac Mini is powered by 2.6 GHz dual-core Core i5, and the $999 model is equipped with 2.8 GHz dual-core Core i5. Both models come with 8 GB memory, Intel Iris Graphics, and can be fitted with a 1 TB 5,400 rpm hard drive, 1 TB Fusion Drive or a 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB solid-state drive. Moreover, both can be upgraded to 3 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 16 GB internal memory.

At the back, the device comes with Thunderbolt port, Mini DisplayPort output, and the faster Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

The Mac Mini gained popularity for being the smallest computer and because the device is compact, unobtrusive and user-friendly. Just like other laptops and desktops from the tech giant, Mac Mini runs with the OS X operating system and has its own onboard storage for videos and apps. Thus, the computer works just like the MacBook or iMac.

Moreover, a lot of consumers love the Mac Mini as it only requires the buyer to purchase the box-like CPU and they can add any brand of computer monitor, mouse and keyboard.
