The LG G3 smartphone is bound to get the sweetness of Android's latest Lollipop OS later this year.

LG confirmed that its flagship smartphone, LG G3, will get the latest Android OS update before the year comes to a close. However, the company did not specify the date as to when it will release the OS update.

The LG G3 was announced and released in Korea in May and hit the overseas market last summer. It packs a 5.5-inch screen display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset, an Adreno 330 graphics chip, the latest Android operating system, 13 MP back camera and 3000 mAh battery. Buyers can take home the device for $99 with a two-year contract with carriers offering the smartphone.

Meanwhile, Google first announced the new operating system last July at the company's annual I/O Developers' Conference. Soon after the event, the company rolled out the OS in developers' preview or beta version that enabled the developers to customize their respective apps to work in the new Android 5.0. This also allowed Google to comb out bugs and issues.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS was unveiled early this month alongside Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, which are the first devices to run with the new operating system. Then, other Nexus devices will get the new OS. After the Nexus devices receive the update, Google Play Edition devices will be the next in line for the mobile software upgrade. Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC revealed its timeline in rolling out the OS update.

The new Android 5.0 Lollipop boasts a "new design language" which is coined as Material Design. This design is claimed to be cleaner and more organized than previous OS versions, which developers like. The mobile software packs new navigation buttons that are a triangle, circle and square. The mobile software also sports new features such as improved notifications, lockscreen, multi-tasking, notification bar, and better battery. Moreover, the new OS also boasts improved security as it will enable users to unlock their smartphones without the need to enter a password.
