'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2 spoilers: John Wesley Shipp may be back as The Flash

The Flash - John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick The CW Network

[Spoilers Ahead]

"The Flash" season 2 ended with the revelation that the imprisoned man in an iron mask was from Earth-3 and was the real Jay Garrick aka the Flash, played by John Wesley Shipp, who also played Henry Allen of Earth-1. According to an interview with Shipp, it is possible he will return to portray the Flash but on a different show.

Speaking with Variety, Shipp explained that the character of Henry Allen was close-ended given that he was given a purpose at the beginning of the series and he had fulfilled that purpose when Barry (Grant Gustin) broke him out of prison and the two got some time to bond together. Now he would be able to explore something new as Jay Garrick.

"The fact that I'm now getting to morph into an entirely different character that is so important to the Justice Society of America, which also bleeds into 'Legends of Tomorrow,' he's such an important character to this whole world - it just opens up enormous possibilities for me as an actor going forward, and the challenge for me, having played Henry, is that I now get to create an entirely different character going forward," explained the actor.

It is important to note that Shipp did portray Barry Allen aka the Flash in the 1990s television show. And when he was initially cast for the new series on the CW it was assumed he would play Jay Garrick at some point, only for the network to reveal he was playing Barry Allen's father, which was still a nod to his past relations with the character.

Shipp explained that the twist about his identity and the man in the mask was a brilliant idea and it would please all the fans he encountered at conventions who repeatedly told him that while they loved him as Henry they would prefer it if he played Jay Garrick.

"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will no longer just involve time travel and it is possible that by dimension-jumping the core team will encounter and maybe recruit Jay Garrick for a few episodes when the show returns this Fall.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
