'The Legend of Conan' plot news: Arnold Schwarzenegger gives update

Arnold Schwarzenegger as King Conan the Barbarian Universal Pictures

At a press junket for "Terminator Genisys," actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was able to share a few details regarding the long-gestated project, "The Legend of Conan."

"The Legend of Conan," which will serve as a true sequel to the 1984 John Milius-directed "Conan the Barbarian," has been reported to be in development since 2012 but was stalled due to Schwarzenegger's commitment to "Terminator Genisys," which opens in theaters on July 1.

Nerd Report shared that when the actor was asked what specific aspect of the planned film convinced him to come back as Conan the Barbarian one more time, Schwarzenegger replied:

"I was hoping to do another one, and I liked the idea of Conan having been king for a long time, then just threw it all away and went into retirement and went off into the mountains. That whole idea always appealed to me. Then of course he gets asked back because of some hideous and unbelievable things that are happening to the kingdom. So that's when the battle begins again."

According to a report from Slash Film, the original draft script was done by Chris Morgan and was later edited and refined by Andrea Berloff. However, during the press junket, Schwarzenegger confirmed that the script still needs some tweaking before they can finally enter production.

The actor also stated that he tries to focus on one project at a time. Given that "Terminator Genisys" is about to be released in theaters, it is speculated by many that "The Legend of Conan" will be his next film.

"The Legend of Conan," which Morgan described as "Unforgiven but with swords," will disregard the events of "Conan the Destroyer" and the 2011 reboot film that starred Jason Momoa in the titular role. Previous reports here on Christian Today state that the studios are also interested in bringing back characters from the first film, leading fans to speculate if Subotai or even the witch, played by Cassandra Gava, will be seen in the film.
