Marvel has now officially announced that "Game of Thrones" star Finn Jones will be portraying Daniel Rand aka Iron Fist. The character will star in his own Netflix series before eventually appearing in the spin-off series "The Defenders," which will put him together with other Marvel superheroes who have appeared on Netflix.

Finn is primarily known for playing Ser Loras Tyrell in "Game of Thrones," a character also known as the Knight of Flowers, the brother of Queen Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) and lover of the late King Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony). Finn has also starred in the BBC series "Doctors" and in "The Sarah Jane Adventures."

In the comic books, Daniel Rand is known as a billionaire from New York who went missing. When he returned, he was no longer the same, having been trained as a Buddhist martial artist. He takes on the superhero identity of "Iron Fist," a name that also references one of his most powerful abilities.

According to Marvel's Jeph Loeb, who serves as executive producer and head of Marvel TV, Finn exemplifies all of the qualities necessary to properly portray this character in a live adaptation.

"Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world," said Loeb. "Now that we've found our Danny Rand, we've completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe."

After his solo Netlfix series, Iron Fist will appear in "The Defenders," where he will be joining Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). "The Defenders" has no official release date as of the time being, however.

"Iron Fist" is expected to release before the end of the year, following the launch of "Luke Cage" this Sept. 30.
