Qi charging pads are slowly becoming a household name for tech fans, and now Apple listed down cars that can support their wireless charging feature.
With the latest crop of smartphones from Apple, come the very convenient and next-gen feature of wireless charging. Setting the bar higher still is that most manufactured cars these days are certified for Qi charging pads that will support both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X. iPhone 8 Plus is evidently an exception since the model is larger than the other two. Owners of the iPhone 8 Plus will still have to charge their smartphones through a cable.
Apple listed Audi, Honda, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Mercedez-Benz, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Volvo as the car brands that support wireless charging system of the smartphone. They also listed cars under the PSA group that included Opel, Citroen, Peugeot, DS, and Vauxhall.
Continuing down the list are brands from General Motors that included 2018 GMC Yukon, 2018 GMC Terrain, 2018 Chevrolet Bolt, 2018 GMC Sierra, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, 2018 Cadillac Escalade, 2018 Buick Enclave, and 2018 Chevrolet Suburban,. General Motors have started manufacturing their cars that can support wireless charging since 2017, but most charging pads do not meet the Qi standards.
Car makers have been using these wireless charging systems for smartphones for a couple of years, but it was only recently that the Qi systems were introduced to the mix. In the past, specific phone cases were needed to charge phones wirelessly. Apparently, this idea seemed to be good in paper but yielded average results in practice.
While wireless charging means less compared to devices charged by cables, the idea of not using wires for charging is convenient to some users. iPhone loyalists are reminded by Apple to check the fitting first before buying cars with built-in Qi wireless charging features.
