It was expected by many that the iPad Air 3 would be unveiled by this year. However, according to a report from Chinese site Economic Daily News (via ITPro), production for the iPad Air 3 has been halted in order to give higher priority to the iPad Pro and iPad minim4, which were unveiled at Apple's recent event.
According to the report, this means that the Air 3 will not be released until 2016. The iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 are expected to launch in retail stores starting this October, which is why the manufacturing companies have been given the mandate to focus on these first in order to meet the expected demand for these products.
Given that, the iPad Air 3 is expected to be released by spring 2016, although no specific release window has yet been given at this point. It is likely that the iPad Air 3 will be released simultaneously with another Apple product such as a new line of Mac desktops and MacBook variants.
According to Expert Reviews, it is likely that the iPad Air 3 will feature an improved A9 chip or possibly the A10 if it is produced in time for the release of the upcoming device. The report also cites that the Air 3 may come with 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM and will make full use of a 64-bit processing system, as well as the latest version of iOS 9.
The report does cite that there are rumors of the iPad Air 3 sporting the new USB Type-C and 3D Touch. But since the iPad mini 4 did not come with these two features, there are chances that the iPad Air 3 will not come with them as well. Slide Over and Split View, however, are likely to be included, which will give the Air 3 more multitasking capabilities.
Some speculate that the iPad Air 3 will be given a new moniker and instead may be called the iPad 7.
