iPad Air 2 release imminent as mass production and assembly begins

Apple's iPad Air 2 release date may happen soon as assembly of the device began this month, according to reports.

9to5Mac cited ETNews claiming that the production of the next generation of iPad Air started this month and the mass production of the display components will commence in the middle of the month, while the production of the device's processor and camera sensors will begin next month.

Sources also claimed that Apple has developed a new A8 system-on-a-chip that focuses mainly on the improvement of the speed by including significant performance and efficiency enhancements rather than core architectural changes. The chipset will largely help in maintaining the device fluid experience.

The new tablet will sport a new back camera from 5 megapixel sensor to 8 megapixel shooter. The front facing camera will also be improved from 1.2 megapixels to 1.5 megapixels. Although it is a small jump, it will bring significant improvements in the quality of FaceTime calls and selfies taken through the front cam. Moreover, the next generation of iPad Air will also include True Tone dual-LED flash, Burst Mode, and Slow-Mo video capture mode just like its brother iPhone.

Leaked specs of the iPad Air 2 suggested that the tablet will also pack a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which could be the new iPad's main selling point. The feature will most likely come into fruition as Apple launches iOS 8 with new Touch ID APIs for developers. Reports said that the fingerprint sensor can replace logins and passwords in apps. It seemed that Apple wants its developers to make use of the technology.
