iOS 8.1 beta hints at upcoming iPad Air 2 tablet with higher resolution

The beta version of iOS 8.1 hinted that the upcoming iPad Air 2 will sport a higher resolution.

Developer Hamza Sood unearthed the image files in the new iOS 8.1 beta, and it showed that it supports 3x versions of the iPad's UI. The new iPhone 6 Plus uses triple-sized elements in order to keep the Retina display status of the screen panel.  With no increase in screen size, the the next iPad is likely to have a higher-resolution, as the discovery suggests.

Some of the rumored features of the new iPad Air are A8 processor, M8 graphics chipset, iOS 8, and Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The new features announced at the previous iPhone event, such as iHealth, Apple Pay, and iCloud Integration, are expected to be seen in the new iPad as well.

According to the latest reports, Apple will add a gold variant to the current space gray and silver color options in order to boost the sales of the new iPad. Apple plans to attract more consumers, especially those who bought the gold iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus.

This is not the first time that iPad has been rumored to include a gold variant. After the announcement of iPhone 5S last year, it was thought that the iPad would follow the color variants of the Apple smartphones.

Meanwhile, Apple recently sent out invites to its press event happening on Oct. 16. The invite simply reads, "It's been way too long." But the company offered not much clue on what should be anticipated on the event.

The company did not specify which Apple products will be showcased in the event. However, it is speculated that along with the iPad Air 2, the iPad Mini 3 and OS X Yosemite as well as a slew of rumored devices such as Macbook Pro, MacBook Air with Retina Display, iPod Touch 6th Generation, and Smart HDTV would also be unveiled.
