iOS 8.1.2 update released by Apple for bug fixes

iOS 8 software

Apple rolled out the iOS 8.1.2 update on Tuesday and brought another set of bug fixes and solutions to the issues found in the latest iOS, including the problem of disappearing ringtones from devices after they have been purchased from the iTunes Store.

The latest update was launched without sending the beta to developers for further testing and scrutiny, and was immediately rolled out to wide release. iOS 8.1.2 is now available through Over-The-Air update or by downloading it from iTunes. iOS-based devices should receive a notification, but users can also check if the update is available by going to the Settings > General > Software Update.

Users are constantly reminded to update with more than 50 percent battery charge and they should make sure that they have a stable Internet connection. The fifth OS update is 25 MB in size when downloaded OTA. That's not so big, considering the size of the original iOS 8 which needed between 4.7 GB and 6.9 GB of free storage space.

Users can then restore their missing ringtones by going to iTunes.com/restoretones in the Apple device and follow the instructions.

iOS 8.1.2 update can be downloaded and installed to the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as well as to iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third- and fourth-generation), iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.

Apart from bug fixes, it will also further improve the security of the device and improve the performance of the operating system in devices.

Apple was criticized due to the rocky launch of iOS 8 as users found a number of bugs like battery draining and HealthKit bugs, and some issues in the iCloud Drive. Since the OS update was not tested, users may want to wait for others to comment whether the OS update works and has no major issues.
