iOS 10 will be launching this coming September and is expected to launch alongside the new iPhone 7 and Apple's newer tablets. As the OS is still in development, a report from MacWorld reveals that the third beta version of iOS 10 has been released for developers and curious consumers to try out.
The report reveals some of the more prominent updates that beta 2 and beta 3 have added, such as several new animated stickers for the iMessage app. The app also now allows users to send low-quality images through the app and this is stated to be a good means of conserving data.
3D Touch Quick Actions now work for items. One of the stated examples is that using Quick Actions a person can now switch between the different levels of brightness intensity of their iPhone's flashlight apps. Widgets are another item getting updated as they are now larger, resolving issues about some widgets not performing properly.
The iconic "Slide to Unlock" feature has been removed with iOS 10 but the beta updates now come with a "Rest Finger to Unlock" option. This is expected to be a more secure but also more accessible means of unlocking the phone or tablet.
Folders are also stated to be transparent again with a glassy design. The earlier builds of iOS 10 took away folder transparency but this has since been brought back. Lastly, there is also haptic feedback when the device is locked, making it much easier to determine if the iPhone or iPad has indeed been locked.
The report also points out that Dark Mode, a viewing mode which vastly contrasts the bright white and gray of the current iOS builds, is not available for mobile devices. Dark Mode is still reportedly going to be solely for tvOS but not the smaller devices with iOS 10 running such as the iPhone 7.
