Huawei has taken the spotlight recently for being the company chosen to develop the Nexus 6P while Motorola designed the other Nexus smart phone for Google. However, Huawei's other notable phone, the Huawei Honor Play 5X, is supposedly set to launch this Oct. 10, according to a report from Android Headlines.
According to the report, Huawei posted the information on Chinese social media site Weibo with a poster confirming the date. However, the Weibo post does not reveal any specifics for the phone nor does it reveal any design changes and improvements from older models.
While the Oct. 10 release date has been posted, it is likely that this is solely for the Chinese market and there are no confirmations from Huawei at this point if the device will be released in other countries.
The phone is stated to be a very capable entry-level device that sports a 5-inch 720p display and 16 GB of storage that can be expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card. It will be powered by the MediaTek MT6735 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It will feature a 13-MP rear camera and a 5-MP front camera.
It will run primarily on Android 5.1 Lollipop in the background with Huawei's EMUI running as the front-end.
According to NDTV, however, it is possible that the device will instead be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core SoC that will be paired together with the Adreno 405 GPU. The report also indicates that it may sport 3 GB of RAM instead of just 2 GB.
One thing that is quite likely is that the device will supoort 4G LTE connectivity, a step up from previous models that only featured 3G connectivity options.
The Weibo post from Huawei doesn't indicate any price estimate either, but given its status as an entry-level device, it is expected to be affordable.
