HTC Nexus 9 'Volantis' new leak: Tablet to replace Google Nexus 7, Nexus 10 line?

Nexus 7

After Google skipped introducing a new Nexus device at the recently concluded I/O Developers' Conference, many fans wondered what device the tech giant will launch next.

A fresh Nexus 9 leak emerged online hinting that Google will probably unveil the device in the fall. Reliable tipster @evleaks posted a new document with a codename "Flounder". The photo is mostly blurred making it hard for anyone to really determine what is the nature or purpose of the document.

Folks from Android Guys claimed that the new device could be hiding precious information although they did not specify what it is.

There were speculations that the alleged HTC-made Nexus 9 will replace Google's previous tablets – Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Although reports initially claimed that an 8-inch tablet from Google will replace its 7-inch slab, people also lost its hope for the Nexus 10 after it has been almost 2 years since the first generation of the device was released.

Meanwhile, Android Police managed to nab a photo of the alleged Nexus 9 tablet. The device is manufactured by Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC and dubbed as "Volantis". The tablet packs an 8.9-inch screen with 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution and 221dpi, 2GB RAM, and HTC's famous front-facing speakers.

It will also house NVIDIA's Tegra K1 processor. Surprisingly, the device has "NEXUS" inscribed at the back just like the previous models. The report continued that the tablet will cost $399 for the 16GB version, $499 for the 32GB version, while the LTE version will have a price tag of $600.

Google is tight-lipped about the details of its plans and devices as well as the release date of its future devices. However, aside from HTC Nexus 9, it was also speculated that the Nexus 6 smartphone will arrive in the fall. If rumors proved to be true, Google will battle head on with Apple which will also unveil its flagship phone and tablet on the same timeline.
