A new leaked image of what is said to be the HTC Nexus 9 emerged online, which debunks rumors claiming that the upcoming tablet will sport a metal casing. The image was posted by Twitter user @upleaks, who also shared details about other HTC devices such as the new smartphone dubbed as HTC Desire Eye.

Based on the new leaked image, the Nexus 9 tablet will not include a metal casing. It was rumored earlier that HTC is mulling over using an aluminum casing for the device. However, it seems that the company will opt for matte-like plastic casing at the back, previously seen in other Nexus devices such as Nexus 7 and Nexus 5.

This is the first time that Google will partner with HTC in making the company's tablet after its successful run with ASUS. The tablet is rumored to be released this month. Android Authority cited sources familiar with Google's plans who claimed that the Nexus 9 release date is set on Oct. 16 alongside a new Android L OS.

Another alleged proof that the HTC Nexus 9 tablet is coming is the device's spec sheet said to have been spotted in FCC, hinting the imminent release of the gadget. Earlier reports stated that the Google's tablet will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year to be available just in time for the holidays, to take advantage of the gift-giving season.

According to rumors, the HTC Nexus 9 will pack specs and features, including:

  • 9 inches Quad HD display 2560 x 1600
  • 2.5 GHZ Nvidia Tegra K1 processor with Kepler graphics (192 cores!)
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB and 32 GB storage options
  • 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization
  • Android 5.0 L operating system

However, these should be taken with a grain of salt as Google has not confirmed nor denied any of these rumors. The company is unusually mum about the details of its upcoming devices and roadmap.
