How I Met Your Mother DVD release date with alternative finale ending will be Fall 2014

How I Met Your Mother season 9 finale CBS

For fans who were disappointed with the way the 9-year long CBS series, How I Met Your Mother came to an end, co-creator Carter Bays announced on Twitter over the weekend that there will be an alternate ending available to watch on DVD.

The Business Insider reports that some fans were upset when the series finale, which aired on March 31, strayed from the plot that the final season carried. The show's final scene, however, was filmed eight years ago during season two, which may account for some frustration fans felt as they watched the show come to an end.

On Twitter, Bays shared with fans how the alternate ending came about. "16 days ago today we were in the HIMYMedit room, trying to decide between two very different endings," Bays tweeted. "We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too."

Keeping fans interested in the now finished series, Bays went on to announce, "We're going to include that version on the Complete Series DVD as an alternate finale to How I Met Your Mother."

The Business Insider reports that the series box set will be released this fall. Fans of the show can also look out for Barney's Playbook.
