"Metal Gear Solid" series creator Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami behind and has founded his own studio, Kojima Productions, which will work exclusively with Sony to produce a new IP for the PlayStation 4. In his first interview since leaving Konami, courtesy of IGN, Kojima and staff revealed the first few details of their new game.
"I want to create something that's what people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven't seen before. I'm thinking smaller-scale, not too many people, and focusing on game creation at first." Kojima explained. He also stated that "it will be a complete game."
Artist Yiji Shinkawa, who previously worked with Kojima in the "Metal Gear Solid" games, stated that he would be overseeing all of the art for Kojima Productions. This includes the backgrounds and "mechs." His statements indicate that the new IP will involve something akin to the Metal Gear or the machines seen in "Zone of the Enders."
Kojima also expressed that while games will be their primary focus, Kojima Productions will also dabble in other medium such as anime or film. He also expressed his desire to continue collaborating with Guillermo del Toro, famed director of "Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy" and "Pacific Rim."
Del Toro and Kojima were previously set to collaborate on a reboot of the "Silent Hill" games and even brought on "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus to star as the game's lead. This project fell apart roughly the same time that Kojima's relationship with Konami began to waver.
"The focus is on digital content, so we could consider movies, animations, anything. But first I think people expect games from me. That's where I want to put my focus. Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos," Kojima explained.
