It was previously reported that during this year's E3, Microsoft and Team Xbox revealed their new Xbox Play Anywhere program where games released on the Xbox One will be available on Windows 10 PC, allowing cross-platform purchasing and more. However, the company has backed down and stated "Halo 6" may be excluded.
"Halo 6," which is currently speculated to be released by 2018 given that early 2017 will see Microsoft and developer 343 Industries focus on "Halo Wars 2," was previously believed to be a part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. This would mean players could get the game on PC or Xbox One and transfer their saves between the two platforms.
This may no longer be the case. According to a report from Gamespot, Microsoft has updated their official blog post that states only the games shown at the E3 will get the full Xbox Play Anywhere experience. These games include titles like "Halo Wars 2" but not "Halo 6."
Despite this, the report explains that "Halo 6" may still get a PC release. The Forge Tools for "Halo 5: Guardians" is being launched for PC, although the actual game is not, and this is a step in the right direction to bring the main "Halo" games to PC.
To date, only a handful of "Halo" games have seen a PC release. "Halo: Combat Evolved" and "Halo 2" are the main entries on PC and the rest of the PC releases are for spin-offs such as "Halo: Spartan Strike" and the upcoming "Halo Wars: The Definitive Edition."
343 Industries is currently working on the game but the developers have not yet revealed just how far into the development they currently are. It is possible the entire workforce of the team is working on it or it could just be one or two developers working out new ideas, story direction or others until "Halo Wars 2" is released.
