'Halo 5' DLC release date news: Ninth major expansion still coming

Halo 5: Guardians, the most recent title in the series 343 Industries, Microsoft

"Halo 5: Guardians" has received eight expansions for free for the past few months, but as stated in a report from Gamespot, this all ends with the recent launch of the "Warzone Firefight" DLC. While free monthly updates will no longer be given, the developers at 343 Industries promise that a DLC expansion is underway and will be released soon.

"While you won't be seeing updates every month moving forward, nor updates the size of the 'Warzone Firefight' release, we're happy to let you know that there's still more on the way," 343 Industries explained. "Things we have yet to talk about or discuss. Things that I have seen, and I think you will like. These and more are in the works, so in short, there is indeed more to come. Rest easy."

According to the report, it comes as no surprise that the developers will still continue supporting the game and release new expansions later on but the news of 343 Industries slowing things down instead of releasing them monthly may be an indication they are working on paid DLC or might be working on "Halo 6."

The developers also explained that at the time being there is no specific release window as they are still working on the next DLC expansion. They also explain that at they are looking into data from user feedback to further refine the content and fixes for the next updates and DLC.

One element that is confirmed for the next DLC update is a fix for the current bugs and glitches plaguing the Tidal lighting. Like all previous updates the next one will come with more bug fixes to further refine the gameplay.

Fans speculate that the end of monthly updates confirm that the staff might be splitting responsibilities. As one team continues to support "Halo 5: Guardians," the other might already be working on the early stages of "Halo 6."
