GTA Online 'Freemode Events' DLC: What you should know

GTA Online - Freemode Events DLC Youtube/Rockstar Games

"Grand Theft Auto Online" will receive the new "Freemode Events" update Sept. 15. This new DLC will introduce gameplay challenges and missions seamlessly into the game's Freemode session without having to pause the game. As stated in Rockstar's official announcement, there will be no load times, no menus, and no lobbies.

This will allow seamless integration of the new events which are going to occur at any given moment. Gamers will be able to customize their settings to determine which types of Freemode events will happen. This will let gamers play as little or as much of the new content as they desire.

In the announcement and accompanying trailer, Rockstar Games unveiled two of the events that may take place during Freemode sessions.

The first event is King of the Castle where the game will assign one building as a "castle" in which the players must fight each other to claim as their own. Those who claim it as their castle must then defend it from those attempting to dethrone them.

The second event is called Hunt the Beast. One player will volunteer to temporarily transform into a beastly character — complete with boosted speed and strength — who will then be hunted down by all of the other players.

Other Freemode events include stunt challenges, catching the most air using a land vehicle, and performing the highest number of near misses in a vehicle without actually crashing. Other events have yet to be announced.

The "Freemode Events" DLC will also include several additions to the game such as two new Adversary Modes. The first is called Hunting Pack which enlists players to protect a vehicle rigged with a bomb that will explode if it goes below a certain speed, similar to the mechanics in the film "Speed." Other players will be tasked on taking down the vehicle. The second is Cross the Line which sees squads armed with multiple weapons fighting in a neutral zone. The objective is to penetrate into their enemy's territory.

Along with all these additions, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will also receive the Rockstar Editor but with a few new features such as Director Mode updates and more. These new additions will also be added to the currernt Rockstar Editor for PC gamers.
