'GTA 5' DLC update news: Story DLC to cost the same as full video game?

 Rockstar Games

It was previously reported that there are speculations of Rockstar Games developing a brand new single-player DLC for "Grand Theft Auto V." However, according to a report from IBTimes, it is possible that if such a DLC pack should be released, it will cost nearly as much as a full retail video game.

According to the report, YouTube user DomIsLive  — a regular video game insider who has released leaks and rumors regarding the franchise before — states that while the online multiplayer mode gets updates and new gameplay mechanics for free and on a regular basis, this will not be the same for the single-player campaign.

In the posted video, it is speculated that a single-player story DLC may cost as much as $49.99 given that the developers would need to step away from the online revenue and focus on developing a brand new story, hire voice actors, and designing new maps, weapons and vehicles.

The single player DLC is also likely going to impact the online game, and this will require even more fine-tuning, which may lead to an even longer delay in the DLC's potential launch if there is even one to begin with.

According to the video, Rockstar Games will continue providing free content to keep the online game active given that the company does earn a high profit from the microtransactions alone. A single-player DLC pack does not offer the same financial benefits which is why it is likely that Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive will charge players to acquire the DLC.

However, some fans speculate that there will be no single-player DLCs for "Grand Theft Auto V" given that it has been three years since it was initially launched and because the company may already be too busy working on a new IP that will be presented this year during the E3 event in June.
