The sixth installment of "Grimm" returns in January next year with only half of its usual episode count. The season kicks off with Nick (David Giuntoli) using the magic stick and the evil it then brings upon all of them.
"Grimm" season 6 is set to return on NBC on Jan. 6 next year with reportedly fewer episodes. The season has been trimmed down to only 13 episodes from season 5's 22-episode count.
In an interview with Dread Central during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con last July, co-executive producer Jim Kouf shared that the reason they cut it down to 13 was "because of all the intense drama." The producers have a lot of characters and events that will unfold in season 6, and they wanted the story to be tightly knit, which fit perfectly with a season comprised of only 13 episodes.
"Grimm" season 6 picks up exactly where season 5 ended, according to co-executive producer David Greenwalt.
"Basically, we've got to dig ourselves out of the hole we dug. Renard has some consequences for what happened, the whole conflict with Juliette/Eve, the stick, the ring, all of that has to be resolved. Plus we still have to deal with some of the larger cosmic issues like the history of Wesen society and the big players," explained Greenwalt.
Previously in "Grimm" season 5, Nick and Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) got hold of the Crucifixion stick that helped them cure Monroe of his wounds. But according to Greenwalt, there's more to the stick than its healing powers.
"That stick unlocks things that should never have been unlocked. There was a reason that was buried for all time," Greenwalt told TV Line.
Guintoli also shared that there is "a lot of evil attached to it," and that if it lands in the hands of the wrong person, it is similar to handing nuclear bomb codes to someone with destruction in mind.
"Grimm" season 6 premieres on January 6, 2017 on NBC.
