After all the heartbreaking events that happened in the previous season, fans should prepare to see a new "Grimm" when the fifth season of the series premieres this Friday.
David Giuntoli, who portrays the lead role of Nick Burkhardt in the series, recently spoke to Oregon Live to discuss the things to look forward to when the fantasy police procedural series returns to the screen for season 5.
According to Giuntoli, "There's something of a reboot this season." It means that Nick will undergo a lot of changes in the upcoming episodes as a result of his losses in season 4.
"We've lost my mother," the actor said while talking about his character. "We've lost Juliette. We've lost the trailer. And, as you'll soon see, we lose my house."
Giuntoli revealed that Nick will have a new living condition in the coming season since he will have to start living in a bunker. But perhaps the biggest challenge for his character will be his fight to end the impending Wesen uprising, especially since he is still struggling from the pain of losing two of the closest women in his life.
And while fans are still hoping to see either Nick's mom Kelly (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) or his girlfriend Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) appear in season 5, the actor revealed that this might not happen.
The actor also talked about how Nick will face his new role as a father, since Adalind (Claire Coffee) is about to give birth to their child. According to Giuntoli, Nick is not the type of father who will dote on his child too much. Instead, he will just make sure he keeps him safe from any upcoming danger.
Since Nick will ask Adalind to move with him after giving birth to their child, some fans are asking if there is a possibility for him to fall in love with his mortal enemy. Giuntoli refused to provide more details, but he said, "But proximity breeds romance."
Yet in an interview with TV Guide, series co-creator David Greenwalt said that Adalind wants to give her child a good life even if she and Nick are in a very unusual parenting situation. "They're in an unusual situation, which is they've had a child, but ... their relationship [was] based on trying to kill one another," Greenwalt shared. "They haven't had a loving relationship. But now they have this kid, which is quite a quandary. She also eventually wants to go back to work and may have the opportunity to go back to being a lawyer."
The premiere episode of "Grimm" season 5 can be seen on NBC tonight, Oct. 30, at 9/8c. It can also be streamed on the network's streaming site.
