'Gran Turismo Sport' PS4 release date confirmed for November 15; rumored to be compatible with PlayStation VR

Gran Turismo Sport Polyphony Digital, Sony

Sony and Polyphony Digital have confirmed that "Gran Turismo Sport," formerly referred to as "Gran Turismo 7," is coming out on the PS4 on November 15.

The new title will feature 137 premium cars and 19 different locations

As stated in a report from the PlayStation Blog, the developers are holding a special "Gran Turismo Sport" event in London on May 19 and 20. During the two-day event a brand new trailer will be released and the developers will finally share new information regarding the game's new mechanics and changes from previous entries.

The first day will also allow attendees to watch videos of the game's "Nations Cup Pre-Season Test" as well as the "Manufacturer Fan Cup Pre-Season Test" for the "FIA Gran Turismo Championships." On the second day there will be a presentation held by producer Kazunori Yamauchi, who will be accompanied by the game's development team.

During the event attendees will be able to look at nine full-scale Vision GT cars as well as two Vision GT cars that are a quarter-scale of the full size.

Fans of the racing video game series who will not be able to attend the events can still watch a live stream for both days. The videos will be available on the official PlayStation YouTube channel and the "Gran Turismo" YouTube channel. Streams on May 19 will begin at 10:45 a.m. Pacific Time.

According to a report from IGN, the developers are also working together with FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) with the hopes that online racing video games may one day be recognized by the FIA alongside real-world vehicular sport racing.

"Gran Turismo Sport" is stated to be compatible with the PlayStation VR, and while it has no official release date yet it is expected to launch this spring. However, as stated in a report from Alphr, the franchise is known for its delays and it is possible that the game can be pushed from its spring release to early 2017.
