The Google Nexus 7 was expected to be released last May or last August when Android 7.0 Nougat was unveiled, but the months passed and the device still wasn't launched. However, the Nexus 7 is still on track to release before the end of the year although it is speculated to be rebranded as the Google Pixel 7.
According to PC Advisor, the device is going to be developed by Huawei, and it will bear the name Pixel 7, similar to how the next Google smartphones will be known as the Pixel X and Pixel XL. Given that those phones are on track to be unveiled at a Google event this Oct. 4, it is also stated that the Pixel 7 will be showcased at the same time.
The report states that there are varying rumors and speculations about the tablet's full specs and features, but the device is expected to come with a 7-inch quad-HD display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a starting base model that comes with 64 GB of internal storage.
It is said that it will have microSD card support, and unlike other devices, this will be able to support more than 256 GB of external storage. According to the report, the Pixel 7 may allow up to 2 TB of external storage, making the Pixel 7 just as versatile as a regular laptop or desktop computer.
It is also noted to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera, a standard for the Google Nexus 7 series. It is uncertain at this point if the camera will receive new updates or features such as 4K video recording or more advanced landscaping features.
Google has yet to make an official announcement regarding the potential release of the Pixel 7, and Huawei has yet to confirm that they are indeed the manufacturers of this new iteration of the iconic tablet. It should be noted that Asus was responsible for previous models of the Nexus 7 tablet.
