Nexus 6 news: U.S. Cellular offers cheaper price for the handset

Consumers looking for cheaper options to acquire the new Google Nexus 6 can turn to U.S. Cellular, as the carrier now offers the handset for a much cheaper price. Joining the ranks of AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular is selling both variants of Google Nexus 6.

The carrier is merely asking for $199.99 for the 32 GB model and $249.99 for the 64 GB variant. Both prices are $50 less than the offer of AT&T and Sprint. The carrier reportedly has stocks of the Cloud White and Midnight Blue versions of the handset in stores.

The handset without a two-year commitment is also cheaper than the price listed by its rival carriers, but more expensive than Google Play Store prices. U.S. Cellular offers the 32 GB and 64 GB handsets for $660 or $730, respectively, compared to the $649.99 and $699.99 prices listed in the Play Store.

Meanwhile, buyers can also head to AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to buy the Nexus 6 for flexible rates and monthly subscription fees. For example, subscribers can sign up for AT&T's Next Installment plans so they do not have to shell out a single cent. The price of the handset will be added to a subscriber's monthly payments. The Nexus 6 is also available off-contract in carriers for $650 to $700.

The largest U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless is also reported to offer the handset starting on Dec. 13. Back in October, the company confirmed that it will offer the Nexus 6 but did not give out a definite date as to when the handset will be available for its subscribers.

Google Nexus 6 comes with the following specs and features:

  • 6-inch screen display with Quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution
  • quad core Snapdragon 805 SoC clocked at 2.7 GHz
  • Adreno 420 GPU
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop OS
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • 3220 mAh battery
  • 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage variants
