Google Nexus 6 release date soon; new photos leak online

The Google Nexus 6 release date is expected to come soon as new alleged photos of the device have emerged online.

XDA-developers posted photos of the purported device earlier this week. The handset, dubbed as "Shamu," is being manufactured by Motorola, and is reportedly under development.

User named Michael Sudol uploaded the photos of what is believed to be the follow-up for the Nexus 5 handset.  It's similar to Motorola's latest handset Moto X (2014) but quite larger in size. Aside from a larger screen panel, the features are consistent with the Moto X's specifications. It is said that the upcoming Motorola handset also packs a rear-facing camera with a dual LED-based ring flash, and the back plate has a metal border with antenna design.

According to the XDA and other sources, the upcoming device will include a 13-megapixel back camera, a quad core Snapdragon 801 or 805 chipset, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 3200 mAh battery, and a Quad HD display or 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.  The Nexus 6, also dubbed as Nexus X, is rumored to sport a 5.9 inch screen display. With such massive screen display, there are speculations that the handset will be Google's entry to the phablet category.

The Nexus X or Google Nexus 6 release date is reported to happen in mid-October. Oct. 16 has been dropped by some reports, while others say that it will be launched in Halloween or on Oct. 31, which still falls in the October launch period. Still, others predict that the handset will arrive in November alongside other Google devices such as the Nexus 9 tablet by HTC and a new Google wearable or smartwatch.

However, Google has not confirmed nor denied any of these rumors. The company is unusually quiet about the details of its devices and roadmap.
